Hello, fellow Korean Americans!

The day has finally come for this blog to take its first step into the world.
Have you ever had these thoughts?
‘Our kids in America know K-Pop, but do they really know the stories of hardship from our parents’ generation?’
Or, ‘Is our traditional Korean culture being forgotten, while only new K-culture is consumed?’

This blog was born from those very questions.
As K-culture sweeps the globe, the amazing performances of BTS on stage or the heart-pounding stories in K-dramas are precious to us, but there is something even more precious. That is the stories of us, the Korean people, and the lives contained within those stories.

The mission of this blog is not a grand one.
It is simply to be a space that weaves together the ‘stories’ of us, the Korean people who have taken root in America, through the bridge of K-culture.
From the hardships of the first generation of immigrants who started on distant Hawaiian sugarcane plantations to the stories of Gen Z dreaming in a New York Koreatown , we aim to become a bridge that connects the generations, recording and sharing each of our experiences.

Here are some of the stories we’ll share together:

  • The Past and Future of K-Culture:
We’ll explore stories of incredible artists who are creating a ‘hip tradition,’ going beyond K-Pop and K-dramas, much like BTS’s Suga reinterpreting traditional instruments or Blackpink’s Jennie reimagining ancient crown motifs.
We’ll look at how a K-culture familiar to the younger generation can carry the weight of our identity.
  • History, Roots, and Courage:
The first step of our immigration history, which began on Hawaiian sugarcane plantations in 1903, was not easy.
The courage and lives of the first generation of immigrants, who never gave up despite over 10 hours of hard labor and loneliness each day , are a source of pride for us all.
We will vividly record and illuminate their stories so they are never forgotten.
  • Korean Life Hacks in America:
We’ll share small but important tips for immigrant life under the name ‘K-Life Hacks.’ We’ll cover practical and cultural topics like how to send money from the U.S. to Korea , how to find a reliable Korean hospital , or how the ‘palli-palli’ (hurry, hurry) culture familiar to Koreans is received in America.

The main characters of this blog are you.
Please feel free to share your lives, the K-culture you enjoy, or any questions you have in the comments.
Your stories will be the most important content for our blog.
What stories would you like to hear first?

We hope this space becomes a sanctuary that offers a little inspiration and warm empathy to your daily lives.
We will be back next week with a post on ‘Finding Hidden Korean Grocery Stores in America!’
